18 December 2025
Season’s Greetings!
As the year draws to a close, we reflect on another busy time in Te Mata Park.
We have had hundreds of school children visit the Park in 2025, netted another Green Flag Community Award, seen the revamp of Tamariki Ako, a substantial make-over of the shelter in the Giant Redwoods, planted over 1,000 native rakau, farewelled longstanding board members and volunteers, appointed new Trustees and a new Chair, and made ongoing improvements to trails throughout the Park.
We have a variety of projects on the go in Te Mata Park and change is often afoot, but what stays constant is the support from the community and the affinity that people feel with this treasured maunga.
We would like to sincerely thank everyone who has supported Te Mata Park this year – whether you made a donation, volunteered your time, supported a school visit, or spread the word of our endeavours, we are immensely grateful for your support and enthusiasm.
In particular we would like to thank:
- Our wonderful volunteers, particularly the dedicated Friends of Te Mata Park and Predator Control groups
- The local businesses who support our volunteer events or provide pro bono professional services
- The donors and charitable organisations who provide critical funding
- Our strategic funding partners Hastings District Council – Te Kaunihera ā-Rohe o Heretaunga and the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council
We look forward to 2026 as we continue to work together to enhance and protect Te Mata Park for all to enjoy. We wish you a relaxing and enjoyable festive season as you spend time with friends and family. See you on the trails!
Ngā mihi,
Te Mata Park Trust Board
