Rāhui in place at summit

May 13, 2021/in News /by Sara Shaw

Te Mata Park Trust is deeply saddened to advise that last night a person lost their life off the summit on Te Mata Peak.  To honour and protect the area, a rāhui will be imposed until Monday morning, 17 May. Car access will be unavailable night and day from the security gates above Peak House, until that time. The rest of the Park will remain open.

Walkers and bikers are asked to avoid the summit out of respect for the rāhui. It is a truly sad day for the community, and the Te Mata Park Trust Board sends their deepest condolences to the bereaved family.

The Park Trust is liaising with Police and Hastings District Council on the road closure and details of the incident.

Please also note that Peak House will continue to be open for business during this time.
