QEII National Trust visit Te Mata Park

QEII National Trust is an independent charitable trust that partners with private landowners to protect and enhance open spaces of ecological and cultural significance. Hawke’s Bay is home to 227 registered and approved covenants on approximately 9,700 hectares of land.

The majority of the 107.5 hectares that make up the Park was placed under a QEII National Trust covenant in 1996 to ensure permanent protection of this iconic landscape. The broad objectives for the management of Te Mata Park, as defined in the QEII covenant, are to protect and maintain the open space values of the land, to protect the native flora and fauna on the land, and to assist in protecting the landscape integrity of Te Mata Peak.

As well as the additional protection the QEII covenant affords Te Mata Park, the Trust benefits from the knowledge and expertise of QEII National Trust Hawke’s Bay representative Troy Duncan, who is a member of the Park’s Operations Committee.

Te Mata Park Trust acknowledges the expertise, mahi, and support provided by QEII National Trust in helping to protect this taonga for future generations to enjoy.
