Dog walkers: beware of toxic karaka berries
Karaka trees are fruiting now through to autumn, and their bright orange berries drop to trails and the forest floor. These berries are toxic to dogs if eaten.
Karaka trees are found throughout Te Mata Park, but are particularly common in Webb’s Bush and the Karaka Grove which is located in the upper Te Hau Valley, accessible by Karaka Wander (the yellow track).
Please keep dogs on leads in these areas and do not allow them to eat fallen fruit. Please contact a vet if you believe your dog has eaten karaka berries.
